1962 Ford Falcon Ranchero
The Ranchero platform was introduced by Ford in 1957 and was a coupe utility vehicle similar to the El Camino. That being said, the popular El Camino, wouldn't be introduced until a few years later. The idea was to take the 2 door station wagon and adapt it to integrate a cab and cargo bed into the body. Suddenly you now had other options outside of committing to a car vs truck. These vehicles were significantly smaller than their full size pickup counterparts .....
and opened up a whole new world for consumers. The second generation was released in 1960 and now was much smaller becoming based on the Ford Falcon. Trends were shifting to smaller more economical cars and the Falcon answered the call. This 1962 Ranchero is an extremely well built car and is a step above your average Ranchero. You don't see many of these modified so this pro touring custom is guaranteed to stand out in any crowd. It has 1,167 miles on it since being completed and was done in California. It is painted in a nice Wimbledon White which is period correct for the 60's. All the exterior chrome and stainless from bumper to bumper is in great shape with a very nice shine. The glass is tinted throughout and free of any cracks or issues. The bed is all very nicely done and the inner fenders have been tubbed to allow space for a wide rear tire. The wheels are XXR Platinums and have a beautiful finish. It wears a 17 inch up front, 19 inch in back and the rears are 12 inches wide.
With some serious meats under the rear end you can bet this custom is packing something special under the scooped hood. Well turning those back tires is a custom built 460 ci motor that runs strong and sounds great. It is fitted with a Holley dual feed 4 barrel carburetor, aluminum intake, March serpentine belt system, Mallory Unilite distributor with Taylor wires, and Ford Racing valve covers. The engine compartment is extremely clean with a modified recessed firewall and custom cover to hide the aluminum radiator with dual electric fans. Backing up the motor is a C4 automatic transmission with 2400 stall converter to transfer power back to the Ford 9 inch 4.11 Detroit locker rear end. The suspension system is all custom with a Scott's powder coated subframe, tubular upper & lower control arms, front sway bar and adjustable coil overs. The car starts right up and has a really nice sound through ceramic coated headers into custom 3 inch X-Pipe dual exhaust with Flowmasters and stainless tips that exit below the rear bumper. It has been set up to be a true smooth pro touring driver which of course comes with additional upgrades like Wilwood 4 wheel disc brakes with slotted/drilled rotors, Red calipers and a power rack & pinion steering system. It also has twin 10 gallon fuel tanks with electric fuel pump, stainless lines and polyurethane bushings. So whether you are heading out to your local cruise in or about to hop on the Power Tour this thing can handle it no problem.
The interior is custom Red leather that has been clearly well cared for since it was completed. The adjustable high back bucket seats look great and feature Silver inserts with headrests and seat belts. The carpet, door panels, headliner and upholstery are all nice throughout. Between the seats is the emergency brake handle and custom mounted Lokar shifter with LED gear indicator. In front of the driver sits a nicely painted tilt column topped off with a Billet wheel. The remainder of the dash is also nicely painted and features Auto Meter gauges with an Auto Meter Sport Comp tachometer, a Kenwood Stereo and an underdash AC/Heat system. Other nice extras include an electric cutoff switch behind the seat.
This is one awesome Ranchero that is going to be a hit wherever you take it. It is a really unique build that incorporates the best of the best. Plus, being a Ranchero the likelihood of you seeing another done to this level is pretty slim.
