Marking the end of the original generation of GTO came about in 1967, with only a few styling changes to enhance the exterior further. The former owner of 29 years located this GTO in Temecula, California in 1992 and enjoyed it with an older west coast restoration presented in Regimental Red. The St. Louis Car Museum would come to own the car in June 2021. The original sheet metal was already exceptionally straight and rust-free, so the body was prepped and expertly painted back to its factory designated color by Springfield Coach Group based in Springfield, MO with completion in October 2021. Fully documented with photographs, this GTO was properly disassembled to receive a new exterior finish. The body was prepped, primered, block sanded, painted, clear coated, wet sanded, and buffed to a smooth finish.
All weather stripping, seating upholstery, interior carpet, door panels, dash veneer, control knobs, bezels, convertible top & padding, boot cover, chrome body side moldings, correct T3 headlamps, grill surrounds are all brand new along with refinished wheels fitted with BF Goodrich Radial Redline tires measuring 205/70R14 and new wheel trim rings & caps! You'll find some original trim, chrome bumpers, window glass, and interior parts, but nearly all major components are new. Other noted improvements included a new polished stainless steel gas tank & fuel sending unit, new front & rear struts, rear coil springs & isolators, front end suspension components, alignment, front brake pads & rotors, complete exhaust system by Waldrons, and much more!
The under hood presentation is very sharp, clean, and well presented in stock form. More recently it received a rebuilt air conditioning system with new seals and conversion to R134a, all new engine fluids & filters, drive belts, hood insulator pad, new battery along with spark plug wires and new spark plugs.
