Combing iconic and aggressive one-year-only styling with its potent, high-winding 302 cubic-inch V8, the 1969 Camaro Z/28 was a marriage made in car fan heaven. Bred to participate in sports car racing, the Z/28 also featured quicker steering and firmer suspension calibrations along with that exclusive powerhouse. The ultimate Z/28 would be one fitted with two extremely rare options -- the Cross Ram dual four-barrel induction system and the JL8 four-wheel-disc brake package. This Z/28 has .....
both. Finished in Garnet red with black stripes and a black vinyl roof, this Z/28 was the recipient of a high-end restoration back in the mid-90s and still presents beautifully thanks to minimal use, proper storage and very pampered ownership. Impressively solid and straight, the Camaro boasts an undercarriage you could eat lasagna off of. Settle in behind the optional Rosewood steering wheel and you'll swear youve been transported back to 1969 thanks to the factory correct interior thats in fantastic condition. Under the hood is a correct, date-coded DZ 302. This is a restoration block that was manufactured within a month of the cars build and has the correct broaching and numbers. Best of all its topped off by that legendary Cross Ram induction system. The Cross Ram was available as a factory option (wherein it was shipped in the cars trunk and then installed by the dealer) or via the dealerships parts counter This was a $500 option back when the base price of the Camaro was only around $2,800 and the Z/28 option itself was just $458. During the restoration the 302s compression ratio was reduced slightly (from 11:1 to 10.5:1) so it will run on premium pump gas rather than requiring hard to find and very expensive racing gas. The potent powerplant breathes out through a rumbling, less restrictive factory chambered exhaust. The original, crisp-shifting Muncie M21 four-speed sends the power to the pavement via the original 4.10-geared Positraction rear end. Matching all that go power are those rare JL8 four-wheel disc brakes that were available both as a factory installation and from the dealership. As with the Cross Ram, the JL8 option was also very expensive at around $500 and was fitted to this car as a Service Replacement. Checking all the boxes for condition, color and features, this 1969 Z/28 presents a rare opportunity, not to mention a lot of enjoyment.
