1970 was the peak of the muscle car era, but if you're not into stripes and extroverted colors (or overpaying for a Chevelle badge), this handsome 1970 Chevrolet Monte Carlo is an excellent choice. Sporting a great-performance small block, great options, and a gorgeous black bucket seat interior, this beautiful white hardtop coupe is a great show-and-go car that still looks awesome and delivers a serious V8 punch under the hood.

ideal in more subtle finishes like white, which covers the car's original sheetmetal perfectly. White isn't the car's original color, it was born Green Mist, but the restorers made a wise choice to give this top-end driver a make-over, giving it a whole new lease on life. The bodywork and paint were finished to a very good standard, and the work seems to have been completed not that long ago, so as you can imagine the curb appeal is through the roof. It's not without its minor flaws and imperfections, although you're not going to win the Nationals with a $40K car anyway, but if you're looking for an honest, great-looking muscle car with a whole lot of curb appeal, then you just found it. It still presents well with a great shine and only minor signs of age and use, and if you really wanted to wake this one up a bit further, a professional cut-and-buff would probably pay big dividends, but overall the car has a very cohesive look that befits its stature at the top of the Chevrolet hierarchy. The chiseled Monte Carlo look was pretty sophisticated for 1970, with a notable lack of ornamentation and muscular-looking quarters that made this personal luxury coupe look anything but tame. A black pinstripe breaks up the monotone look just enough, and we really like that this is a slick-roof example, as it seems that the majority of Monte's that survived the years had vinyl tops for whatever reason, making this a refreshing change of pace. Chrome is good overall, the stainless has been well maintained, the bumpers only have slight patina, and the iconic front grille and round headlight fascia give this Monte that sophisticated hint of formality we all fell in love with back in the early '70s.
The black bucket seat interior is extremely clean, with a nice mixture of original and restored pieces. The seat covers and carpets are surely recent additions, and items like the door panels and headliner are in very good condition for their age. You'll also note that this car carries the optional factory A/C (most of the hardware looks new, but will need service as it is not currently blowing cold) and a center console with a 'staple' shifter, and all that black and chrome inside the cabin looks a lot sportier than the faux wood so many of these Monte Carlo's received. Modern additions include a set of fresh Dakota Digital gauges ahead of the driver, a leather-wrapped 3-spoke steering wheel, as well as a retro-style AM/FM/AUX stereo in the center of the dash, making it a car that you can drive anywhere without a second thought. The horseshoe shifter is perhaps the coolest automatic gear selector ever and the wrap-around dash makes this big car feel very sporty from behind the wheel. One of the virtues of a full-sized car is the giant trunk, which carries what appears to be its original mat and a full-sized spare tire and jack set.
The original small block is gone, replaced by a built-up 350 cubic inch V8 motor that's been fortified with a mild cam and a couple performance goodies to help move this big coupe. With a smooth idle, ample horsepower, and big torque, it moves the Monte Carlo effortlessly with a fantastic muscle car soundtrack that runs from the long-tube headers and into the dual exhaust. The engine bay has been nicely detailed and features a newer black valve covers and a bright chrome air cleaner, as well as a big Holley 4-barrel carb, an Edelbrock Performer RPM intake, and HEI ignition system. The TH350 3-speed automatic transmission shifts like it should and feeds a sturdy 12-bolt rear end with highway-friendly gears inside, while power steering and power front disc brakes ensure a great ride every time out. Proper Rally wheels add a little extra flash and come wrapped in 225/70/15 Cooper Cobra white-letter radials that complete the look..
