Debuting for 1969 as an answer to both Chevys Camaro Z/28 and the call to go racing in the SCCA Trans Am series, Fords Boss 302 Mustang had it all. At its heart was, of course, an energetic, high-winding 302 cubic-inch V8 matched to a Hurst-shifted 4-speed manual gearbox. A firmer suspension, quick-ratio steering, reinforced shock towers and front disc brakes were also part of the Boss persona, as was a killer graphics package that made this one sharp pony. Options such as a shaker hood scoop .....
and rear window Sport Slats took its killer looks to an even higher level. Not only is this particular Boss 302 a 52,892 original, well-kept miles car in fantastic condition, it also sports a rare color combination of Pastel Blue with Blue interior as well as a number of desirable features to further its already considerable appeal. As noted by the included Marti report and copy of the original window sticker, the Boss was optioned with power steering, 3.91 Traction-Lok rear end, the interior Dcor group (with upgraded seats and wood-tone accents), AM/FM stereo radio, tachometer/trip odometer and sports wheel covers. A few other features were added as well, including the rear spoiler, the shaker hood scoop, the rear window sport slats and a set of 15-inch chrome Magnum 500 wheels. Sporting its original powertrain, interior and sheet metal, this Boss 302 has had a rather interesting history as it was bought new by Honeywell Corporation with the intention of participating in road racing events. As such, the car was subsequently equipped with rear disc brakes (with a trunk-mounted proportioning control) as well as Koni shocks, a larger capacity oil pan, oil cooler, power steering cooler, reinforced battery tray, rear sway bar, braided brake hoses and additional bracing underneath. The wheel wells were professionally rolled to accommodate larger racing tires. A set of headers (currently not installed) was also installed by the selling dealer when the car was new and will go with the car. Also, note that this car is in the Boss registry as seen in the photos and received a concours-level restoration at some point as indicated in the Boss registry. We cant say for sure if the car ever saw a track, but judging by its condition it appears it may not have. Also, note that this car is in the Boss registry as seen in the photos. Top, bottom, inside and out, this Boss 302 is impressive. Look close and youll see excellent floors, frame and sheet metal. The interior is all original and is in fine shape as well with no dash cracks, split seams or other flaws. Underway, the Mustang moves out swiftly, shifts smoothly, and handles and brakes with confidence. And of course it sounds awesome, thanks to that high-compression, solid lifter small block.
