This car came to us from a very delightful collection of muscle cars and exotic vehicles. It truly did not fit, both style wise and space wise. So the collector decided to sell it, even though he had been quite enthralled with it when he first saw it and decided to purchase it.
He was told the odometer reading of 38,722 actually reflects the mileage of the car. It came to him after years in Colorado. Due to the age of the car, it is exempt from mileage disclosure and the .....
mileage was not recorded on the title.
As I examine the car, it is easy for me to believe the car has only been used sparingly. The upholstery, dash, carpet, headliner, door panels, trunk upholstery and engine bay all tell me that this car was either given the greatest care imaginable and always garage-kept, or it just hasn’t been driven much. And was still garage kept!
The body is very clean and straight. There are going to be a few stone chips, but that is about it. The chrome is simply fantastic for being almost 50 years old. The softray tinted glass is all original. The padded vinyl roof is original and still in nice condition. You will see how nice and clean it is in the engine bay. The inner fenders are still shiny. The trunk upholstery is all in place and not worn. The spare tire is still the bias ply tire from 1971. The tire iron, jack and original wooden wheel chock are present.
The color was called Cotillion White. The interior was named Black Dorado Cloth. Just as the trim tag decodes. It also shows accessories like power seat, level control, floor mats, automatic climate control, trailering package and lamp monitors. You will also find AM/FM radio, auto-dimming headlights, remote mirrors, power windows and locks, rear defog and flow through ventilation.
All features work properly. I believe the under-dash Cassette player was added. There is switch to change power from it to the radio and back. The keys lock the doors and trunk properly.
The behemoth 500 cubic inch torque-monster propels this car quickly. I have to admit that it provided me with a speeding ticket when I was test driving it during the buying process! It is backed by the 425 THM automatic, which is the front-wheel drive version of the tough and reliable Turbo 400.
The tires are now radials and appear to have minimal usage. I drove it for an hour after the purchase and it really handles well. It kind of floats along with the comfortable ride you would expect from a Cadillac of this era.
I don’t have documentation to support the odometer reading of 38,722. But my investigation and claims by the prior owner support the possibility. I invite you to come and look for yourself. I am confident you will be impressed with the quality of this great Eldorado.
