1973 Volkswagen Type 2 Bus

With the need for a cheap mass produced "people's car" Volkswagen was founded and started producing their Type 1 Beetle in 1938. With its huge success the German automaker follow up with their second offering in 1950 and designated it as the Type 2. These forward control buses proved to be just as popular and in the 60s created some competition in the US where other cab over vehicles started being produced like the Ford Econoline and Dodge A100. .....
These vans became iconic during the 60s as they were associated with the hippie counterculture movement. While these vans have always been popular their desirability seems to be continuing to grow even more. There are various rare models but across the board these buses have truly become investment vehicles. If you are able to pick one up there is no doubt they will hold their value and very likely go up in value as time goes on. This 1973 Type 2 belongs to the 2nd generation and was a unique year as they got a bit of a face lift with the turn signal indicators being relocated above the headlights and the bumpers now being squared off. This clean VW was fully restored to its original condition in California back in 2016. Since then it has been extremely well cared for with less than 3,000 miles being put on it since completed. The bus was owned by 1 family before being purchased by the 2nd owner in 2017. The bus shows well and was a top 25 pick at the 2018 Dub Splash VW show out of over 600 VWs. Every time it has been shown it wins its class. The body is all rust free and painted in a very classic Blue and White color combination. These things were definitely not lacking in the window department and all of the glass is in good condition. The chrome and stainless pieces are all in good shape as well with its original front and rear bumpers in place. The bus sits on a set of its original wheels with VW hubcaps wrapped in Uniroyal tires.

Propelling this classic Bus down the road is its original 4 cylinder motor that runs great. The bus starts up well and rides good down the road. Everything works on it and the owner has told us he would have no concern hopping in it to drive anywhere. It has multiple new components installed including a new starter, new brake hoses, new shaft rod bushing, new fuel pump, new drag link, new tie rods, and all new vacuum and fuel lines throughout. The transmission is a 4 speed manual that moves through the gears with ease. Not only does this beauty provide a great look but it is a very comfortable driver.

Inside there is plenty of seating space with dual bucket seats up front, a full bench in the rear, and the shortened mid bench. The upholstery was redone in a White and Black vinyl combination and is in excellent condition throughout. The dash has the stock layout and all of the original gauges, knobs, switches, etc are working properly. Something really cool about these buses is Volkswagens ingenious ventilation system. Not only does it have fresh air vents built into the floor but under the dash there is a vent that feeds into a channel which travels all the way through the arm rests on the door panels to the rear of the cab. As if the interior wasn't already roomy enough you can pop open the rear hatch and there is additional storage space. It has a nice cloth mat in place and houses the spare.

This fully restored bus is extremely unique and in excellent condition throughout. They are only getting more and more popular as the years go on so this is definitely a purchase you won't regret.
