This 1975 Oldsmobile 442 is a distinct coupe with its black and gold presentation inside and out. And when you see everything from the swivel chair interior, to big numbers-matching V8 under the hood, you know you've found the kind of classic muscle car that you'll love to both show off and drive. This was a new era for coupes at General Motors. The Colonnade look added a more formal style to the silhouette, and that works quite well at a more formal brand like Oldsmobile. But what makes this .....
one so attractive is that it takes the proper styling and gives it a wild side. This was born a factory black car, and the 442 package also made available the bold gold stripe kit that shows off the flare in the fenders and the special louver trim hood. This one even has gold in the waterfall grille for added distinction. The full paint package has been upgraded later in life, and so while this is a car made for driving, it still has a nice gloss and a sharp look that shows off the straight body panels. As a true classic American, this still uses classic chrome to showcase the big bumpers. But the brightwork also gives it added sporty style with large dual exhaust tips and upgraded 15-inch polished wheels. It will always be fun to leave the doors open at a cruise-in so you can show off those cool swiveling front bucket seats. And this was given a special black and gold upholstery package later in life. So that means you have a clean look, timeless color combo, and a great coordinating style inside and out. There is a practical side to this coupe with plenty of space for family and friends in the wide rear bench seat, and the trunk is large enough to carry a full-size spare and plenty of cargo. There are even provisions for factory air conditioning (it will need servicing to function again.). But what really makes this great is the way this 442 lives up to its heritage by engaging the driver with an instrument panel that wraps around you. Plus, you have a center console with floor shifter, upgraded sports steering wheel on a tilt column, and there's a set of SunPro auxiliary readouts mounted under the dash. The mid-1970s were not known for their big power machines, and so this one really stands out to rebel against its era with a 455 cubic-inch V8. With this kind of history, it's great to have the numbers-matching motor still under the hood. Horsepower ratings were down in this era, but with this much displacement, you have a torque monster that has plenty of low-end muscle. Plus, this one inhales deeper with a Holley four-barrel carburetor, and it exhales with added power and authority from the header-fed dual exhaust. And these upgrades remind you that there are a lot of ways today that you can unleash extra power from this big V8. The TH400 three-speed transmission is also the numbers-matching unit. These were paired with these 455 motors because they were the ones stout enough to handle the big torque. Of course, an automatic transmission is great for cruising, especially when you also have power steering, power brakes, front discs, and a rear sway bar. The sale comes complete with the owner's manual and maintenance records. This generation 442 is a rarity out there right now, and so it only gets better when you find one that looks this distinctive and still has proper big V8 power. So if you like to stand out in all the best ways, don't miss this deal. Call now!
