Believe it or not, its a Lotus clat Type 76 Series I, based off of its famous lite model. This survivor example underwent an older, windows-out, frame-off body shell restoration. It is a survivor car, one of only 540 exported in 1977 and one of about 1,500 produced altogether. This late 70s survivor was assembled in July 1977 in Hethel, Norfolk, England with the 522 Option Pack - alloy wheels with wider tires, five-speed manual transmission, air-conditioning and tinted windows, among other options. It was signed from production on August 11, 1977 and sold from the Lotus West distributor in California on August 18, 1977. During its restoration, this example was repainted in Lotus Laser Blue. The paint is in overall very good order there is small cracking in the paint on the trunk lid. The original chrome trim has been covered or replaced with carbon fiber style strips. A NOS Triplex windshield was installed in 2016 and the side glass was resealed. The vacuum-operated pop-up headlights have been refurbished, too. The engine bay is very tidy and the bumpers fit tightly to the body. This Lotus rolls on Nitto NT01 radials, size 205/55R14 at all four corners. Each tire is mounted to an original GKN alloy wheel. The wheels look great while the tires are in good, original shape. Under the front-hinged hood is the cars original Lotus 907 engine, a 2.0L DOHC, 16-valve four-cylinder with dual sidedraft Zenith Stromberg carburetors. This engine is married to an Austin-Maxi five-speed manual transmission with a 3.73:1 rear end. Driver convenience features include factory air-conditioning. Service records from 2013 detail more than $10,000 worth of mechanical updates and repairs, including: Rebuilt carburetors Refurbished fuel tank and new fuel lines New engine, transmission mounts New timing belt Full engine tune-up with PerTronix electronic ignition upgrade New coolant hoses, thermostat and hard pipes New shocks New upper ball joints and outer lower link bushings Rebuilt steering rack Replaced sway bar bushing and end links New tires New mufflers Replaced brake master cylinder, pads and hoses Inside, the front bucket seats and rear demi-buckets have been reupholstered in tan leather with handsome blue-gray cloth inserts. The tan carpet is in very good order while the headliner looks good. A three-spoke Lotus steering wheel with a thick wood rim is ready for adventure. The instrument panel, center console and glovebox lid all have faux wood trim and the inner door liners have been augmented with inserts that match those on the seats and door-mounted stereo speakers. A floor-mounted shift lever, center-mounted emergency brake and a JVC AM/FM stereo with cassette deck complete the interior. The Lotus clat is a sports car built from 1975 to 1982 by British automobile manufacturer Lotus Cars. It was based on the lite but had a fastback body style which offered more practicality with storage in the boot (trunk), albeit with less headroom above the rear seats. The car was initially to be called the "lite Coupe." The lower half of the fiberglass bodywork was actually identical to that of the lite. Competition to this clat in 1977 included Chevrolets Camaro, Datsuns 280Z and Pontiacs Firebird. Documentation includes original Lotus owners handbook; original clat option package list; original Lotus folder with original certificate of provenance; original detail letter dated March 31, 2016 from Andy Graham, Lotus Archivist; Lotus lite and clat 1974-1982 road test portfolio; a binder full of maintenance and repair receipts, invoices, etc.; original binders of Lotus lite and clat workshop manual and service parts list. If youre looking for a car that seems more Gallic than British, if youre a classic Lotus fan or youd like something eclectic to add to your collection, this clat could be just the billet (ticket) for you. A custom-fit car cover is included in the sale, along with two sets of keys. VIN: 77070293E EIN: N7770713920 TIN: A1891 Differential#: D2473 This car is currently located at our facility in St. Louis, Missouri. Current mileage on the odometer shows 41,878 miles.
