Having never had the occasion to venture into the hostile territory of salted roads, this 1995 Chevrolet Impala SS has come through the decades in strong fashion and, with just 68,000 miles travelled during its years of service, still has plenty of life left in it. Consistently well-cared for, it's also running great and would be equally at home serving as a solid foundation for a customization project or as a trusty weekend cruiser.

This Chevy has retained its factory configuration .....
from front to back and still wears its original black shade, equipping it with a classy appearance - it's not by accident that Uber and other ride share programs require the color for their top tier transportation services, as do most limousine companies. More than two decades after first setting rubber to pavement, the car is still free of any major dents or paint and while a trip to the paint booth for a freshening up would bring it back to top form, just a comprehensive detailing session at the hands of a pro will make a big difference here. For quite some time, Impalas have been seen as a sort of sedan version of the muscle car and have built up quite a storied history among performance enthusiasts, so the car's lowered stance, as well as the subtly refined spoiler on its rear deck lid, are appropriate nods to its heritage. Cars from this era didn't tend to sport extensive arrays of chrome, and this Chevy is no exception, but what is on display here is in uniformly good condition.

Inside the doors the gray interior has benefitted from proportionally light and careful usage and is still looking sharp - this is a clean and well-maintained cockpit by any standards. Even the driver's side bucket, almost always the area to show the most wear, is unusually fresh, showing no pronounced creases or wear marks. Below, the carpet fits snugly and whatever light surface discolorations it might wear should disappear pretty quickly with a little focused attention. Everywhere you look - from the headliner above to the center console sitting in between the buckets, you'll see components that appear pretty much as they did when new. Just in front of the factory steering wheel, the instrument panel harbors clear, fully functional factory gauges and shows no hazing and the dash spanning the width of the cabin has yet to develop any cracks. A quality audio experience comes via the original AM/FM/CD stereo at the center of the dash.

Rest assured that this Chevy offers just the rock solid motoring experience you'd want in a frequent driver. Its fuel injected 5.7 liter LT1 V8 is the same engine found in quite a number of Corvettes over the years and was rated at 260 horsepower when it emerged from the factory. It's in top form here, starting promptly and pulling with conviction as it teams with a smooth-shifting 4-speed automatic 4L60e transmission whose overdrive gear brings the RPMs down on the highway. Coming along at a time when its manufacturer had the subtleties of power steering dialed into its engineering, this '95 offers power steering that's light but responsive and, with power disc brakes at all corners, it comes to a stop both easily and quickly as it motors on its set of 17"" factory wheels wrapped with Kumho tires that appear to have quite a few miles left on them.
