1996 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport LT4
CARROLL STREET AUTO
Manchester, NH 03102
Produced only during the last year of C4 production, the Grand Sport sent the C4 out with an emphatic Bang! Named after a rare 1963 Corvette race car, the 1996 Grand Sport paid homage to the original with its blue paint and broad white stripe sweeping over the car. A pair of red hash marks over the left fender and black ZR-1 style wheels added further distinction. The Grand Sport coupe also had flares over the rear fenders, necessary as they had even more massive tires than the convertible version. Indeed, the coupes front and rear tires measured a staggering 275 mm and 315 mm, respectively, wide. Far from merely an appearance package, the 96 Grand Sport also featured the potent, one-year-only LT4 5.7-liter V8. With a 10.8:1 compression ratio and high-performance aluminum heads and camshaft, the LT4 was conservatively rated at 330 horsepower. Actual output was considerably higher as an LT4-equipped Corvette virtually equaled the performance of the 405-hp ZR-1 of the previous year. This particular Grand Sport has just 19,613 miles on it and it looks it as it has been properly maintained and presents in overall excellent condition Of course it packs the powerhouse LT4 matched to a six-speed manual transmission (no automatic option for this serious drivers machine) making it an absolute blast to drive. One of just 1,000 1996 Grand Sports ever built, this beautiful car represents one of the most important chapters in the Corvette story and as such presents a rare opportunity.
