Don't Go To A Car Show!
What? Don't get up at the crack of dawn, or earlier, to go and drink lukewarm coffee and stale donuts while looking at some four wheeled masterpieces. Sometimes while on sticky hot asphalt and no shade. Blasphemy, you say?
Well I am still a fan of car shows but wanted to point out that cars and car themes are everywhere and you don’t have to ONLY go to car shows to see some neat workmanship. My wife is an avid quilter and I enjoy watching her work, help her pick out designs and fabrics and see her go to town. Heck I'll even go (and enjoy) a quilt show too. She'll be the first to let me know when a car show is coming up near an out of town quilt event. (Like the Grand National Roadster Show in Pomona, CA is the same weekend in 2019 as the Road to California quilt show which is held in nearby Ontario, CA). That way we both score a win! And yes, she'll eagerly walk through the grounds at Pomona checking out the suede cars and chrome classics.
At the quilt shows, I always seem to notice a quilt that has a car design in it. And if I don’t see it, my wife is sure to point it out as well. The car designs may not be exactly 100% accurate and to scale but they are recognizable. Frankly, if they were too close to perfect, the lawyers in Detroit might be knocking on their doors with a copyright infringement lawsuit.
Also, one of my favorite hamburger stands in San Diego has walls covered with license plates from all the states and then some. I'm still trying to figure out the meaning of some of the personalized plates! Smack in the middle of the restaurant sits the cab from a VW bus that is just big enough for two to eat in. Plus outside in their lot, is a midget VW bus that has more stickers than paint. So I guess the owners might be VW bus fans while providing awesome burgers..
Which proves my point that cars are everywhere. So sure go ahead and attend those car shows. But check out other avenues and events, and you'll still see some sweet rides and wheels.
