The early (1965-1966) Shelby Mustangs are the first that Carroll Shelby put his magic hands on. By upgrading the suspension, brakes and output of the already high-output 289 K-code V8, old Shel turned Ford's Mustang into a real sports/racing car. The GT350 was a smash success on the track, scoring SCCA Championship victories over its arch rival Corvette. Nowadays, an early GT350 in very nice condition will set you back at least $300,000. Here is something for early GT350 enthusiasts to .....
strongly consider -- an incredible recreation of a 1965 Shelby GT350 based on a rock-solid 1966 Mustang. From top to bottom, it's clear to see that this was a meticulous, no-expense-spared effort. It also has a couple of added perks, including more power and an extra gear compared to an original GT350. The arrow straight and super clean body boasts a gorgeous paint scheme consisting of the iconic Wimbledon white with Blue Shelby stripes. A set of Magnum 500-style wheels, wearing modern performance radials, provide the proper punctuation mark. Of course it also features the Shelby hood scoop, rear quarter scoops and1965-specific details such as rear quarter louvers and a honeycomb grill. The underside is impressively rock-solid as well. The restored interior also looks factory fresh and features a fold-down rear seat, rally gauges, console and sport steering wheel. Rather than the typical, boring black interior this 'stang features a two-tone blue color scheme that adds to the car's massive overall appeal. Under the hood is a stroked 289 that now measures 347 cubic inches. Plenty of performance upgrades, including an Edelbrock intake and ceramic-coated headers and a dual exhaust with Magnaflow mufflers, pump up the power factor. That potent V8 sends the power through a Tremec 5-speed manual gearbox and on to the Ford 9-inch rear end. Other upgrades include 4-wheel Wilwood disc brakes, subframe connectors / KYB shocks and front/ rear anti-sway bars. All that hardware helps the car handle the horsepower as well as it handles the curves. Out on the road this fully-sorted sixties supercar runs and drives incredibly well, with thrilling acceleration, sure-footed handling and confident braking. It also sounds awesome as you take it through the gears. That fifth gear, which you don't get in a real one, makes for more relaxed and effortless high-speed highway cruising -- a nice benefit on long road trips. Offering even better performance while being priced a fraction of what a genuine GT350 would cost, this tasteful, high-end recreation offers a fantastic opportunity for the savvy enthusiast.
