Description
This car came to me from a small town an hour North of New York City. It belonged to an older couple. They utilized the car for her Real Estate business. He drove while she looked and took notes. In fact, there was still a stack of her notes above the visor when I received the car. This is a two door post coupe, otherwise known as a Sports Coupe. It was built in Framingham, MA. The color is Ocean Mist and the interior is black with vinyl upholstered bucket seats. The engine is the 330 .....
cubic inch Rocket V8 with Rochester 4 barrel carburetor. The two speed automatic transmission is called the Jetaway. The rear axle contains an open differential with 3.08 to 1 gear ratio. A very nice combination. Optional equipment on this Cutlass includes power steering and brakes, seat belts, Soft-Ray tinted glass, wheel opening moldings and bright window reveal moldings. The original pushbutton radio has been replaced with an AM/FM/Cassette stereo. It has rear speakers that seem to be factory installed. The car was undercoated when new. A complete dual exhaust system has been added. There is an Owner’s Manual. The complete jack set is present as well as the spare tire and cover. There are two sets of keys that actuate all locks. The trunk mat is new. The antenna and battery are new. The car currently rolls on 14 inch Super Stock I wheels and older Firestone Wide Oval tires. I am not sure if the wheels are original to the car, but they could be. The tires are in good condition, but are old. They need to be replaced for safety’s sake. The wheels are showing some corrosion. A thorough inspection of the car tells me that it was cared for. The floors and frame are very solid. The engine starts, idles and runs very well. The choke works properly. The transmission shifts as it should. I drove the car and it handles well, despite the bias ply tires. Everything works with exception of the speedometer. I am not sure what is amiss. All lights work properly, even the license plate and reverse lights. The odometer reads 37 miles. I don’t know what the actual mileage is, since the odometer doesn’t work. But it is logical that is has not been driven much over 100,000 miles, judging by the overall condition of the car. The interior of this car is very nice. The seat covers are in great shape and appear to be original. The carpet is too nice to be original. The door panels are in good condition. The dash pad is cracked in front of the driver’s seat. The headliner has been repaired with tape above the passenger’s visor. This was where the wife stacked her notes, so it may have been from wear or damage, or it could have been a mouse hole. We did not find any sign of mouse inhabitation or damage anywhere else in the car. The body was repainted a long time ago. I believe all panels are original to the car. I found a few areas showing some bubbling beneath the paint: low on the driver’s door, along the drip rail on the passenger side, at the leading edge of the hood and a small area beneath the rear window. They have not broken through, but would need to be addressed if you would like to show the car. The trim is all in good condition as are the bumpers. The bumpers polished nicely and exhibit no rust. The glass is all in good condition and without cracks. Many of the weather seals must have been replaced when the car was painted. This a well sorted car. In fact, it passed New York State safety inspection as recently as 2020. You can drive it like it is, and improve it as time and money allow. I believe you will be impressed when you inspect the car and we take it for a drive.
